Mulu Wonders

I thought I was a cave digger at some point. Then the fantasy grew to being a tomb raider. It was like a hidden childhood dream coming true. Armed with a torch and a fantastic walking shoe and clad in shorts and my weapon, sony cybershot. Muahahaha! Now some might think that wearing shorts basically will be feeding the mosquitoes eh? Hahaha. It is very interesting in fact. Mulu doesn’t have a single mosquito. :) I did my research. Heh.. All the mosquitoes are eaten by the bats. Yeah. No joke. I didn’t use my mosquito repellant at all. This would be definitely impossible in Singapore jungle or forest.

The cavern at Mulu… I can’t describe. The feeling, the moments, the exploration. Just that I’m not gungho enough for the 5 days 4 nights at Mulu. That package will allow me to swim in the cave… imagine taking a deep breath, dive under some rocky tunnelĀ for few seconds then surface up at another cave. Move on exploring and then stay overnight at some longhouses out in the forest. Oooh. Meeting leeches and trekking out in the hot sun. Seriously. Getting bitten by leeches ain’t painful. It’s when you dunno how to remove them and you just pluck it off your legs… Then you’ll go yikes. You just need to sprinkle some salt or use the lighter on them. Off they will leave you. In peace yo.

After 3D 2N at Mulu, I went back to Miri. Did hill climbing at Canada Hill. Gosh and I fell in love with the challenge. It was totally jungle trekking, up and downs with rocks, mud, ropes, and the motivator was MOSQUITOES! Just when I thought I won’t be using my repellant. Oh well. I didn’t had it with me then. Haha.. Still, as usual at a new place, mosquitoes just have to bite me once enough then it will know I’m not very tasty. Hee. I conquered 2 hills and I hope I will have the chance to conquer the remaining 7 hills if I can come back to Miri the next time.

Too much things to describe. The best is to experience things by your own. I’m hoping and planning to trek Mount Kinabalu in 2009. Hope that dream will come true. :D
